Commissioning
Every commissioned officer regardless if they are LE or DE will attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. There are different courses depending on the type of Commission: Commissioning Course, Commissioning Course Short, Late Entry Officer Course.
All Commissioning Courses are accredited by various academic and professional institutions.
Commissioning Course Short
As a Reserve Officer you will attend a Commissioning Course Short (CCS) alongside Professionally Qualified Officers. It is made of 4 modules A, B, C and D. See the diagram below that details the structure course:
If you are a trained soldier you will be able to skip out Mod A and start on Mod B. Mod A & B can be delivered at RMAS or a local UOTC. These modules are delivered over weekends at UOTC only and are run in line with the academic year. All modules at RMAS are conducted in 2 week blocks.
Mod C & D are run exclusively at RMAS. You are required to have a Main Board pass to attend Mod C. On completion of Mod C you will gain a Probationary Commission which last for 1 year (2 years by exception), you must complete Mod D within the probationary period to gain your full commission. On successful completion of Mod D you will becoming a fully commissioned officer.
Commissioning Course
This is the Regular training course at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst that lasts for 44 weeks, broken down into three 14-week terms.
Between each term, there are adventurous training exercises and 2-3 weeks of leave.
Term One focuses on basic military skills, fitness and decision making.
Term two continues the development of leadership skills and has a major academic component. Officer cadets select their future corps or regiment at this stage.
Term Three puts the Officer Cadet's new skills into practice on complex and demanding training exercises in the UK and overseas.
